Two in sight. Four in our hearts.
Two in sight, four in our hearts.
Sometimes a family is incomplete, even when it doesn’t appear that way from the outside. In this story, what you see are two children by the hand; meanwhile, what you feel are four, forever in the heart. Through Shadowed Memories, the children who are no longer here are gently drawn as a form of comfort for parents who must live with their absence. As a result, this feeling is captured with softness, time, and care.
Hans and Sissy share their story
“On the birth announcement of our youngest it said:
To the eye, a family of four. In our hearts, a family of six.
Those words have stayed with us every single day. Because of Dasja, we were given an image for once, something we had never had before. Together with our loyal dog friend Jaze, she photographed all of us as a family.
Whenever I look at that photo, I feel everything at once. At first there is happiness, followed by sadness and sometimes even anger, because it isn’t truly real. Yet above all, there is PROUD. Proud of our family and proud of who we are, with our entire story.
Throughout the whole process, Dasja sensed exactly what we needed. With great care, she guided us with love, calmness and patience. Because of that, we were given the space to move through this emotional process step by step.” Read more below the photo >

Love goes beyond sight. Two in sight, four in our hearts.
A moment of recognition and completion.
“The photoshoot itself was already confronting, as you can so clearly feel that there should actually be two more. When we first saw the family photo with Shadows, Milo* didn’t feel quite right to us yet. At that moment, it was difficult to put into words why that was.
After all, how do you describe the image of an 18-year-old boy who passed away when he was only 8 months old? You carry that image with you for years. However, translating it into something that suddenly becomes visible is something else entirely.
With Isis*, on the other hand, we longed for something recognisable, something small, yet essential. Therefore, just like with our other daughters, we wanted a few loose strands of hair to make her image softer and more playful.
Instinctively, Dasja understood this.
With only a few small adjustments, everything suddenly fell into place. It became our image.
Our feeling. Our family… for one moment, ‘complete’. PROUD!!
Dear Dasja, thank you for your loving, respectful and patient guidance. We cannot put into words how incredibly valuable this is to us.”
